Different cultures from around the world generated a powerful symbolism related to the passing in different seasons. Romanians welcome spring by celebrating Martisor – a symbol of luck and fertility. Red & white braids accompany colorful objects, usually handmade, and they are offered mostly to girls (there are also some regions of the country where boys receive Martisoare). Some girls wear the braids at their wrist for the entire month and then, at the end of March, they bind it on a tree.
